Louis Vuitton presented its Cruise 2025 collection on Thursday (23.05) in the Sala Hipóstila of Park Güell, in Barcelona, Spain. This place is part of the urban space created between 1900 and 1914 by the architect Antonio Gaudí, at the request of his friend and patron, Eusebi Güell. Forty years ago, the complex was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The choice of Barcelona is part of a series of initiatives that strengthen the relationship between the maison and the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean coast. In 2024, Louis Vuitton will also host an exhibition, cultural and educational activities, and the 37th America's Cup sailing event in the city.
In the Cruise 2025 collection, references to Catalan modernism, with its naturalistic curves and organic shapes, are more subtle. They appear in details such as a sleeve or a skirt, which allude to the trencadís, the irregular ceramic mosaics characteristic of Gaudí. However, the brand presents a predominantly 1980s-inspired cut, with a defined waist, lapels and exaggerated shoulders, evoking the style of Claude Montana and Yves Saint Laurent. These elements have been recurrent in the latest Louis Vuitton collections.
The effect is retrofuturistic, with boater hats and mirrored sunglasses, as well as ruffles and flamenco fringes on jumpsuits and sheer, midriff-baring ensembles. This style gains strength in the final looks, with flared skirts and dresses. It’s impressive how the designer maintains the energy with striking clothes and accessories that are extremely desirable for unique events.
